Is there anyone else that just loves the fact that seemingly every Ace Hardware in the country offers up the same familiar aroma that causes a flood of childhood gaiety upon entry? If so, there's no way you're going in this store and leaving empty-handed! Beyond the already obvious, the employees I have encountered here are friendly and very helpful. I say this despite the fact that the last time my hubby and I brought our easily excited, sweet, inquisitive four-year-old twins, half of which proceeded to have a full-blown meltdown over, you know, the things you might anticipate--even as it is only worth noting as this meltdown was severe enough that it resulted in me sitting with a little guy in our air conditioned vehicle while my husband and other pre-school-aged son finished the shopping to this mommy's disappointment. Aside from that, we are still looking for a couple of things that we didn't purchase here during our last visit as they seemed to be priced right-at-retail and are resultingly priced more competitively elsewhere. Just the same, we left with a few tried-and-true items that we buy here time and again as well as other miscellany.
My patient husband stuck around and tried to ask another employee (he's far more patient than me). The second employee said "we don't work on other brands of lights". My husband simply wanted to know if they were wired correctly, and if not, what part he would need to fix them.
This is true hardware store! And they always have popcorn!
The third employee was more helpful than the other two and grabbed an electrical specialist. The electrical specialist again tried to cut my husband off, saying "we don't help with other brands of lights". My husband finally cut him off saying "ALL I NEED TO KNOW IS IF THESE ARE WIRED CORRECTLY!" Electrical specialist looked and said "yep, it looks right". Wow. It took all that effort and push back for a simple yes or no answer.
Somehow they almost always have what I need. They stock some items you can't get at the big box stores. The real thing that sets this place apart is service. The people that work there know what they're talking about, and they're eager to offer help.
We love to shop local, but unfortunately this local business has lost us as customers forever. It's very unfortunate because locally owned hardware stores bring a lot of nostalgia for both my husband and myself - visiting them with our grandfathers...but I can guarantee you, the owners back then were much more friendly and would've been helpful - whether we purchased the lights there or not. Very disappointed.
Fantastic service. The mature staff is extremely knowledgeable in construction and repair. Prefer this over the big box stores any day. They also carry a lot of hard to find items.
If you need Christmas light help, do not go here. These men are RUDE!! My husband went in to ask a question about how to fix Christmas lights. We thought a local store that has been around forever would have friendly helpful staff - boy were we wrong! The first man took one look at the lights and said "aren't our lights. Can't help you" and WALKED away before my husband could even say anything. Seriously.
